About
I am passionate about the outdoors and sharing that love with kids. I get to do this at my jobs and my business.
I am the Site Coordinato of Schumacher Farm County Park in Waunakee, a restored 19th century farm that serves as an educational and recreation site. I am also the Outdoor Education Specialist at the Goodman Community Center in Madison, Wisconsin. We serve a diverse population of primarily low-income children.
Spending time in nature can help kids during difficult situations and it’s just plain fun. It’s a simple restorative solution for stress and an endless source of beauty and wonder. As a child, my local nature preserve was a refuge from childhood worries and a wonderful place to play. We are fortunate in Madison to have many such places nearby for kids to explore.
I’d like the trails of the future to be full of my former students. I am using this blog to reflect on my experiences as outdoor education teacher and to connect with others interested in doing the same thing.
I started my business, “Get Kids Outside,” in July 2009. I help businesses, organizations and others design outdoor programs and events. I also teach a bubble art class and am developing other classes.
Please comment about what I’ve written. I love to hear from people.

Hi, Diane. I’m enjoying your blog/website… very nice. It’s great to see someone so dedicated to our children. I mentioned that I also have a blog. I have neglected it for the past few months but if you would like to check it out, here is the address. As you’ll see, it is a little less focused than your own. —Karen
